Description
Polyethylene glycol 150 distearate or PEG-150 distearate is a diester of polyethylene glycol stearic acid. HLB 18.9 (gives oil-in-water emulsion). It appears slightly cloudy in water, but is clear in surfactant solutions. Effective thickener for products containing surfactants (such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel). Solubilizer for various substances insoluble in water. It has good emulsifying properties in creams and lotions.
Structure of polyethylene glycol 150 distearate
Polyethylene glycols (INCI: PEG-…) are products of polycondensation of ethylene glycol or ethylene oxide polymerization products. The number added to the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units in the substance. The consistency of PEG derivatives becomes increasingly solid with increasing degree of polymerization. PEG with an average molar mass of up to 600 g/mol are liquids, up to 1000 g/mol are wax-like, and from 4000 g/mol are wax-like solids. By mixing solid and liquid components, products with a creamy consistency are obtained, which are used as waterless and rinse-off foundations. As the molar mass increases, solubility in water and hygrometry (moisture absorption capacity) of polyethylene glycols decrease.
